We recently wrote a detailed review of the Binance card; you can read it here. And today is time to look into another big market player Crypto.com and the pros and cons, main features, fees, and limits, of their Visa Prepaid Debit Card.
We are digital nomads dealing with cryptos and their applications in real-life daily. We are testing different services snd solutions to give you an in-depth review in one place. We test them out, so you can decide if they are a suitable solution for you.
Crypto.com is a fast-growing cryptocurrency exchange that is successfully becoming part of our everyday life.
They support a wide range of crypto and fiat currencies, so it's perfect for all crypto enthusiasts.
Their contactless Visa Crypto Card was one of the first cards with the possibility to spend your cryptos for everyday purchases without unnecessary waiting. You need to load your crypto funds to the card and convert them to your preferred fiat currency.
💡 After transferring your cryptos to fiat money, you will need to move the funds to the card manually, the same goes for when you are putting the money back to cryptos.
You can use the card around the world where Visa is accepted. It's a prepaid card, and you can top up your account using bank transfers, credit or debit cards, cryptocurrencies, or PayPal.
Crypto.com offers up to 8% cashback on purchases. However, the cashback amount highly depends on the staking amount of Crypto.com's native token CRO.
A Visa card is a free and metal version for those who decide to stake CRO and enjoy the cashback rewards and other benefits that we will look at in the following paragraphs.
While the benefits and rewards mainly depend on the card tier, you opt for, the fees and limits, setup, and activation process depends on your location.
Cashback
One of the most promoted features of the Crypto.com card is the rewards you get for purchases. However, it is somehow a bitter-sweet privilege as you need to stake high amounts of CRO in your Crypto.com app. The more CRO you stake, the better Card Tier you can get.
All the rewards on purchases are in CRO tokens, which you can trade for other crypto coins or switch to any fiat currency that you later use for your purchases.
The card types are Midnight Blue, Ruby Steel, Royal Indigo and Jade Green, Frosty Rose Gold and Icy White, and Obsidian.
To picture this better, let's have a look at these card tiers and the amount of CRO you need to stake to obtain the card:
To get 8% cashback, you need to stake 400,000 USD in CRO, which is a lot for an average user. However, especially since you are dependent on the volatility of the crypto market, the positive part is that even if you don't stake an enormous amount of CRO, you can still benefit from competitive rewards.
You must hold your staked funds with the Crypto.com Rewards Visa Card in the account for at least six months.
Reimbursement on subscription services
This is one of the most exciting benefits of the Crypto.com Rewards card. Depending on the card tier, they offer reimbursements on Spotify, Netflix, and Prime subscriptions. Starting with Ruby Steel (staking 400 USD of CRO) and higher.
Monthly fee credits are up to $12.99 for Spotify and Amazon Prime and up to $13.99 for Netflix.
Here are the card tiers and the benefits per each:
Some card tiers also offer higher-end benefits, such as a private jet partnership and airport lounge access.
Besides monthly subscriptions, certain tiers also offer high-end benefits, like:
LoungeKey access
If your card is Royal Indigo/Jade Green and higher, your benefits include access to over 1,000 airport lounges via LoungeKey. Frosted Rose Gold & Icy White and Obsidian have access for an additional guest.
Discounts on Airbnb and Expedia
Holders of Obsidian cards can benefit from a 10% discount on Airbnb, and 10% on Expedia (Expedia discount is available for Frosted Rose Gold & Icy White too)
Additional Rewards
Additionally, top-tier card owners can benefit from Private Jet Partnership, earning Bonus Rewards and getting an Exclusive Merchandise Welcome Pack.
As you noticed by now, Crypto.com is offering some pretty nice rewards, but as mentioned, it all depends on how much meat, CRO coins, you have in the game.
Mobile app
You can track all your transactions, your staked amount and manage your card on your Crypto.com app. It's clean and straightforward to use. So perfect, even if you are a beginner in the crypto space.
The app is available for iOS and Android users, and you can apply for the card in seconds.
How do you get the Crypto.com card?
It's easy. You can apply for the Crypto.com Rewards card through your app, so it's time to download it if you don't have it yet.
⚠️ The only limitation is that before you apply for the card, you need to stake CRO tokens for 180 days to apply for a Crypto.com Visa Card.
Once you have your app downloaded, you have to sign up and create a Crypto.com account and complete your KYC verification.
After this is completed, your next step would be to buy CRO in the app, based on the card tier you are applying for, and deposit them to your Crypto Wallet.
After your CROs are deposited, select the Card tab, choose your desired Visa Card, tap the Stake CRO button and follow instructions.
That's it. Your next task is to wait until you get notified that your card has been shipped.
There are different delivery times, depending on your location.
How to set up my Crypto.com card?
Once your card arrives, you will need to activate it. The activation process depends on your location, so you can check Crypto.com's support docs for more detailed instructions.
However, activating your card is an easy process nevertheless. All you need to do is access the Card section in the app, tap the Activate my Card button, and follow the instructions to enter your CVV and PIN code.
Once you are all set up, the only remaining step is to top-up your card and start spending your hard-earned money.
As the activation and setup of your card depending on your location, so does the topping up of your card. You can see your best options to top up the card for your location here.
Fees and Limits: Crypto.com Card Review
Besides the CRO staking requirements, it's FREE to get your Crypto.com Visa Card.
There is no monthly management fee; however, you need to use your card at least once per year; otherwise, you will be charged a small fee.
You get the interbank exchange rate if you buy something using your Crypto.com Visa Card in another currency.
💡 The interbank rates are the lowest rates that can be found at any particular time and are reserved for big banking institutions. (investopedia.com)
There is a monthly limit on free ATM withdrawal based on the tier, and if you go over 0.5% fee applies, which is very competitive.
We will not go into the details on fees and limits because they highly depend on your location and card tier. However, you can conveniently see all the fees for your specific location in the app's settings in the Fees and Limits section.
Security and customer support: Crypto.com Card
Both Crypto.com exchange their Visa Card is safe to use. They offer high-security standards to protect your crypto assets and all your personal information.
If you encounter any issues with the card, you can reach out to customer service via in-app chat. However, based on the reviews, the support can be slow and, in some cases, also not so helpful.
Our verdict: Crypto.com Card Review
While there are more and more crypto cards on the market that offer rewards and benefits, Crypto.com is what we love to use the most.
It's the combination of benefits, their great mobile app, and also the metal material somehow feels cool.
One of the drawbacks is the amount of CRO that you need to stake to get the highest cashback.
Weirdo Team thinks that this card is a good fit for all crypto investors who believe in their native token and the team behind Crypto.com. Because the more you invest, the more you will get back.
If you are not such a firm believer, you have the option to get a lower tier, like the Ruby Steel card, where staking $400 of CRO already gets you a solid cashback of 2% and a total rebate for a Spotify subscription.
Crypto.com card and app offer you a safe and easy way to use your crypto funds and apply them in real life.
100% cashback on Spotify, Netflix, and Amazon Prime
turn digital assets into spendable currency
Great mobile app
Airport lounge access (depending on your Tier)
No monthly or annual fee
