Weirdo's Weekly Update — 27 Feb, 2023

What are we working on

The team is united again - Julia flew in from Taipei, and we will spend the next 3 weeks together in the Philippines. We will use part of the time on the Video courses and finalize the launch plan for the Academy in a couple of weeks. This is a very new area for me as well, so I have to do my favorite process - learn and apply! 🤓

As a part of my relaxation, I am working on automating our search for apartments. We usually book a short-term rental in every place we come to. The idea is to simplify this search and extract the available apartments filtered based on our needs. E.g., price, amenities, location, rating, etc.

To do that, I’m using ChatGPT, and Python script, which are really accelerating the process. Even though my programming skills are a bit rusty, I already have some great outputs, so I’m happy about where this is going. I haven’t spent much time developing lately, but I have to say I’m excited. If used correctly, ChatGPT can be a great programming buddy or coach.

Crypto Updates

This week, some exciting things happened that might interest you.

The news of the week is the announcement of Base from Coinbase.  The Base is a secure, low-cost, developer-friendly ETH L2 built on Optimism's stack. Besides that, Coinbase is also opening trading access to USDC in 70 additional countries.

This move shows Spotify's commitment to providing cutting-edge features and experiences to its premium users. It could signal the beginning of a new era of exclusive content on the platform. It will be interesting to see how this experiment evolves and what other opportunities it may bring for artists and fans alike.

Travel Update

It’s our second week in Cebu, and on Saturday, we continue our journey to Boracay island. 🏝️  I’m looking forward to some more island vibe and having a reunion with my brother and friends.

Cebu is a province in the Philippines consisting of a main island and surrounding islands and islets. Cebu is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful beaches, historical landmarks, and vibrant culture; also popular for diving with whale sharks. Cebu is the oldest city in the Philippines, having been established in 1521 by Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan; it is known as the "Queen City of the South,"; and it is home to the famous Magellan's Cross, which is said to have been planted by Magellan himself upon his arrival in 1521. Additionally, Cebu is known for its delicious cuisine, including lechon (roast pig), dried mangoes, and puso (rice wrapped in banana leaves).

On top of that, the people are nice and friendly!

Here is the night view of Cebu from our pool area on the 15th floor:

I am currently watching

I stumbled upon The Consultant couple of days ago. It caught my attention because Christoph Waltz plays the main role, and I love his convincing acting style.

Btw, did you see the clip where he talks about the difference between Germans & Austrians in Conan’s show?

Tool of the week

This week's kudos go to Headspace - my to-go app for guided meditation and mindfulness exercises. I'm on my over 2y daily meditation streak as a part of my morning meditation routine. I would recommend it to all beginners in the meditation space, as they offer easy-to-follow and comfortable courses and help you progress gradually.

Usually, the meditations are around 10mins long, not over 30mins. So it's great if you want to build a healthy routine with some meditation sessions.

If you want to try it, you can use my aff link here.

Something to think about

Out of James Clear’s News:

"The 2-step process for exceptional results:

(1) Spend a little time each day thinking about the highest leverage activity available to you.

(2) Spend a little time each day working on it."

Paulo Coelho:

"One day you will wake up and there won’t be any more time to do the things you’ve always wanted. Do it now."

Roger Payne

"Any observant local knows more than any visiting scientist. Always. No exceptions.”

A question to ask yourself

James Clear

Is it better to delay getting started by weeks or months so I can be fully prepared? Or is it better to start right now with little to no preparation?
